God Is. We are Not. The Truest definition of Grace.

Who are we, compared to Him.

I was going to write on Grace, and mention ton’s on information and definitions and fancy theology. But in the end that can just confuse people, so I am going to be to the point and elaborate off of a sermon form John Piper.

I was watching John Piper talk about the Post modern Church and he was discussing our value. The emergent church has this idea that Humanity is worth everything. The Human and the Soul is of incredible value, but that is contradictory to the Bible. Now don’t get me wrong it is very important to help people, the poor, and the ones in need. Just like Jesus did, but should we worship the Man, or the creator.

John Piper quotes Isaiah 40:15 and 17.

15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

17 Before him all the nations are as nothing;
they are regarded by him as worthless
and less than nothing.

Oh if the Church would just realize how terribly invaluable they are… They are dust on scales and worthless drops in a bucket. God is Bigger then any words can describe.

I think the more we learn to focus on how big God is and how little we are compared to him, the more wonderful Jesus Christ’s death will appear to us. The smaller we are, the bigger Christ’s death becomes.

This is also a verse I fell in love with while reading over the passage John Piper so elegantly taught on.

7 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the LORD blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.

We are nothing more then withered grass. Isn’t that amazing, we are minuscule and worthless. Yet Christ still died for us. Piper said “Oh that every person in this post modern, self exalting world would come to say, I am totally dependent on God, and I am incalculably less valuable then God.”

The distance between us and god is bigger then any number…

Actually this reminds me of a time me and a friend from camp were laying down looking up at the sky, while we were waiting to do something…We were talking about how many stars are in the sky, and the number that is. We concluded God knows that number, and every number, of everything. Then we thought about something…

If numbers go on for infinity, is God bigger then infinity? Is god bigger then numbers? The answer is obviously yes…He is bigger. God is bigger then anything he creates by definition he has to be, if God created numbers, then he is bigger then the biggest.

This brings me to the suffering on the cross. Don’t you realize that we are not owed anything? There is no promise, that God will keep his promises, other then the Fact God said so. Nothing is owed to us. But he chose to give us opportunities, and a way to be with him despite everything.

We have all committed terrible sins against God. It doesn’t matter what you did, IF you lied one time or murdered more then the Iceman. God has provided a way for you to escape his wrath. Why? Because he loves you. He loves you, even if you are nothing more then a drop in a bucket, you’re his drop.

You are destined for Hell. I heard it explained once as a response to an Atheist who didn’t believe that Hell was a Just punishment, that if you kill someone on the street you are a murderer, but if you kill the president you become promoted to an assassin. It’s not the crime you do; it’s who it is done to. I can lie to my mom, but if I lie to the president it becomes treason. God is bigger then any president and king. So it only makes sense that Hell is the most suitable punishment imaginable.

They Joy of Grace cannot be enjoyed with a puny view of God. The God that cannot keep his word inerrant, The God, that cannot create existence within 6 days, or the God whose son was “Just a Prophet” is not the God who will satisfy your quench for salvation. He wants you in his kingdom, but never does he need you in his kingdom.

I could close this blog with three lines that we call a Sinners Prayer, and ask you to pray the words. But there is no authenticity. You need to throw yourself face down on your own accord and beg the great I AM to spare you of this punishment we all so rightfully deserve. Repent of all sins past present and future and pray that God helps you strive for holiness for the rest of your life. Now salvation is clear, Now Grace is crystal.

God is unfathomable. God is.

A Digital Revival...

I was surfing the internet today and downloading my favorite podcasts, discovering new ones when something hit me. Of all the periods in history, now is the greatest time to be a Christian. OK well maybe it doesn’t beat the time when you walked with Jesus, or when Paul was starting the first Churches, but you get the idea. Have you ever thought about what we have at our fingertips?

The internet has come along way over the past 3 years, it is changing all forms of media but more importantly it is changing Ministry. We have free video available at the click of a button. YouTube, Google Video, and a smorgasbord of Video Podcasts. It’s an all you can watch buffet. Sure there is ton’s of junk, more then we could ever count. However, have you thought about what types of Ministry resources are available online now?

We have the bible in almost any language, any version, ready to read, or be read to you. There are commentaries, dictionaries, concordances and comparisons and this is just on one site. (blueletterbible.org)

The greatest preachers in the world podcast every sermon, appearance and bible study and give it to you every week for free. This includes, John Piper, RC Sproul, Ergun Caner, Jerry Falwell, Ray Comfort, and countless others.

Finally we have access to some of the greatest sermons ever preached available to read. Including Martin Luther, John Edwards, John Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, Paul Bunyan and C. S. Lewis.

People spend several years, and thousands of dollars going from bible college to seminary. When all the information a Professor could teach you in 4 years is available for free, anytime you want.

I don’t think we realize what we have available. I think we take it for granted. There is no excuse for not knowing basic theology anymore. There no excuse for saying that your pastor, or your Sunday school teacher doesn’t feed you like you want. Get over it. Stop filling up your iPod with worldly music and videos and instead fill them up with sermon after sermon. If one preacher bores you, find another one. Welcome to the Internet. Welcome to Variety. Welcome to Massive Theological Education.

What’s going to happen over the next few years is going to amazing. Christians are going to be come more aware of this Internet Education and they are going to start feeding off of it. Over the next few generations, we are going to see some of the most talented, educated and balanced theologians the earth has ever seen…and they never went to a single seminary or sat in a single bible class.

Hopefully omniWORD will have a part in this massive online revival.

That’s what were about. Providing multiple teachers and multiple viewpoints on a single WORD, Broadcasting the message of Christ’s Perfection to all nations.

So over the next few weeks your going to see some changes, and make new friends. Were going to bring you resources and information from all areas of Christian Doctrine. We will share our knowledge of the Word of God, along with the knowledge of others.

Were about to bring a whole new meaning to church, and it has nothing to do with emerging.
